How do I get tickets to the 2027 Open at St Andrews?

The only official public route to 2027 Open tickets is The R&A's free ticket ballot, open now and closing at 3pm BST on Friday 24 July 2026. Entering is free: you need a One Club membership (also free), and you only pay face value if your application is drawn.

When does the 2027 Open ballot close?

The ballot opened on 6 July 2026 and closes at 3pm BST on Friday 24 July 2026. Results are released in waves through August and September 2026, and every applicant is notified by email whether they were successful or unsuccessful by the end of September. An application can come back fully successful, partially successful, or unsuccessful. The championship itself runs 15 to 18 July 2027 at the Old Course, St Andrews, with practice days from 11 to 14 July.

What does it cost to enter?

Nothing. The ballot is free to enter. The one requirement is a One Club membership, The R&A's free-to-join digital membership (presented by Mastercard), so the total cost of applying is zero. You only pay if you are drawn: successful applicants buy their allocated tickets at face value and have seven days to complete the purchase. As a guide to those face values, recent pricing put general-admission practice days around GBP 40 to 70 and championship days at GBP 150 (Thursday and Friday), GBP 170 (Saturday) and GBP 190 (Sunday). Under-16s go free when attending with an adult, and 16 to 24 year-olds get discounted Youth tickets.

Who can enter, and how many tickets?

The ballot is open worldwide, but exclusively to One Club members, which is why joining (free) is step one. You can apply for up to four tickets per day, across Adult, Youth (16 to 24, discounted), Junior (under 16, free with an adult) and Carer ticket types. It covers all eight days of championship week, so you choose which days to go for.

How do I enter the ballot?

  1. Join One Club (free) or sign in, at the official One Club membership page.
  2. Go to theopen.com/ticket-ballot and start a ballot application.
  3. Select the days you want, up to four tickets per day, and submit before 3pm BST on Friday 24 July 2026.
  4. Wait for your result by email (waves run August to September 2026).

What are my odds?

Championship days are the hardest: recent Open ballots have been up to roughly ten times oversubscribed on those days. Practice days have a materially higher success rate and are officially recommended if getting in matters more to you than which day you go. One entry per person is the rule; there is no way to boost your odds by applying twice.

The R&A also offers a paid One Club Advantage upgrade that it says gives enhanced ballot chances. That is an optional paid add-on, not the free route: the free ballot above is all you need to enter.

Quick answers

Is the 2027 Open ballot free to enter?

Yes. Entering is free, and the required One Club membership is free to join too. You only pay face value if you are drawn.

When is the 2027 Open?

15 to 18 July 2027 (practice days 11 to 14 July) at the Old Course, St Andrews.

When will I find out if I got tickets?

Results come in waves through August and September 2026. Everyone is notified by email by the end of September.

Can I improve my chances?

Apply for practice days, which have a higher success rate, and enter before the deadline. It is one entry per person, so a second entry will not help.
