Full guideWhich 2027 marathon major ballots are open, and how to enter

Where it stands

As of 8 Sept 2026

The 2027 ballot is not open yet, but the official ballot page now publishes the timeline in the organizer's own words: a ballot opening phase in late September, a ballot closing phase in mid-October, and the draw announcement in late October, with results delivered by email. The exact calendar dates are still unpublished, as is the 2027 race date.

Entry to the ballot is free; if you are drawn, the page says your card is automatically charged AUD 280 (domestic) or AUD 330 (international) to secure the place. The 2026 race ran 30 Aug 2026.

How to enter

Enter the free ballot at tcssydneymarathon.com when the 2027 window opens in late September 2026; the official ballot page states it is a random draw, not first-come first-served, so application timing within the window does not matter. The site's own '2027 ballot' link goes to a mailing-list sign-up at tcssydneymarathon.com/sign-up, which is where the organizer says official ballot information and updates are sent.

Your odds

The organizer's own release of 29 Oct 2025 counts more than 123,000 entries in the 2026 ballot, up 56 percent on 2025 and the highest in the event's history, against a target field of 40,000 finishers; the number of places allocated through the ballot itself is unpublished, so no success rate can be stated. The 2025 cycle drew more than 79,000 applications for 35,000 starting positions (NSW Government release of 19 Jan 2025). In the 2026 cycle, High Performance applicants were notified 28 Oct 2025, one day before general applicants (29 Oct 2025)

Good to know

  • If you hold a deferral from 2026 to 2027, the official FAQ tells you not to enter the ballot. Deferral claims are handled separately after the 2026 race, so entering the draw as well is the wrong move.
  • Results arrive on two different days. In the 2026 cycle High Performance applicants heard on 28 Oct 2025 and everyone else on 29 Oct 2025, so a quiet inbox on the first results day is not a rejection yet.
  • The 2027 ballot is known to exist even though nothing about it is published. The organizer's own FAQ already refers to it, but no 2027 race date and no ballot window have been announced; the dates here are inferred from the last-Sunday-of-August pattern that gave 31 Aug 2025 and 30 Aug 2026.
