Entry to the 2027 Boston Marathon is by qualifying time only. Qualifier Registration Week ran 14 Sept 2026 to 18 Sept 2026, with applications closing at 17:00 ET on 18 Sept 2026, and the B.A.A. received 33,649 qualifier applications for a field of 30,000.
On 29 Sept 2026 the B.A.A. began notifying applicants: qualifiers 5 minutes 17 seconds (5:17) or more under their age-group standard were accepted, and 1,000 further places are assigned through the Boston Qualifier Selection, a random draw open only to qualifiers whose times fell short of that cut-off, not to the public. 8,019 qualifier applicants were not accepted. Race day 19 Apr 2027.
How tickets actually work
Entry is by qualifying time. Qualifier registration for 2027 ran 14 Sept 2026 to 18 Sept 2026 in the B.A.A.'s Athletes' Village platform and closed at 17:00 ET on 18 Sept 2026. It was not first-come, first-served: the fastest qualifiers in each age and gender group were accepted until the field filled, with a cut-off of 5:17 under standard. The qualifying window for the 2028 race (17 Apr 2028) opened 19 Sept 2026, and the B.A.A. says 2028 registration dates will be announced after the 2027 race. The charity program is the main non-qualifying route.
Your odds
No public lottery: meeting the qualifying standard does not guarantee entry. For 2027 the B.A.A. reported (preliminary figures) 33,649 qualifier applications for a 30,000 field: 24,630 accepted with times 5:17 or more under standard, 1,000 more through the random Boston Qualifier Selection, and 8,019 not accepted. Earlier cut-offs on the B.A.A. qualify page: 4:34 for 2026 and 6:51 for 2025.

The qualifying window opened 13 Sept 2025 and the B.A.A. publishes no separate closing time for it; its 16 Jun 2025 registration-update release says the window stays open through Registration Week, so the operative deadline is the 17:00 ET 18 Sept 2026 application cut-off. An earlier note here put that cut-off at approximately 12 Sept 2026 17:00 ET; no official page supports that date, so it has been removed.
Race date 19 Apr 2027 confirmed on baa.org. The 2027 entry fee is still not published.
